OXFORD, Miss. – WKU Track and Field concluded a successful day of action at the Joe Walker Invitational, hosted by Ole Miss.
The Red and White had finishers within the top-five in seven different events, including two first place finishers.
Netanya Linares led the way for the Tops during day one. Linares' successful run started in the field with a second-place finish in the heptathlon high jump after clearing 1.61 meters. The North Carolina native also placed fifth in the heptathlon shot put after clearing 10.13 meters. Her success continued on the track as well after placing first in the 100 meter hurdles after running a 14.16 followed by a fifth-place finish in the heptathlon 200 meters.
Sticking with the field, Alja Basic had a successful day for WKU as well on the hammer throw. Her 68.82 meter throw marked her new personal best, earning her a fifth-place finish. Also finishing in the top-10 of the event was Aitona Safont Falomir who finished ninth after clearing 54.00 meters.
Transitioning to the track, there were a number of personal bests that were achieved during the 5000 meter invite. Tops Kinley Kunkel, Kynzlei Bassett, and Rylee Evans all turned in personal bests in the event. Kunkel finished first after running a 17:49.51, followed by Bassett and Evans who finished third and fourth respectively.
In the final event for the women, Haley Zell finished 16th in the long jump. Zell was able to clear 5.19 meters.
On the men's side, Devon Rogers turned in the best finish for the WKU men as he finished third in the javelin throw. The freshman threw for 58.83 meters.
Gabriel Dozier finished 18th in the 200 meter after turning in a 22.06.
In the hammer throw event, two Tops placed in the top-15. Luke Stegman finished 11th, followed by Jesse Grace who finished 14th after achieving his personal best of 50.15 meters.

The Joe Walker Invitational will continue for the Hilltoppers tomorrow morning. The first event for the Red and White is the women's heptathlon long jump, slated for 10:45 A.M.
