Last time out, WKU hosted the Hilltopper Relays. The Tops were particularly active in field events. Nick Fornoff set a new PR in the high jump clearing 1.98 meters to claim first place. Katie Isenbarger took first place in the women's event matching the program record (1.82) and Grace Turner followed behind with a career day, clearing 1.76 meters.
This success, particularly the women's team, led to a No. 2 ranking in the USTFCCCA Women's High Jump Rankings. The accolades didn't stop there as the men's and women's hammer throw groups were also highlighted in this week's rankings. The women's team is ranked No. 19 while the men's team checked in at No. 23.
At the Hilltopper Relays, the women's hammer group claimed the top-four spots, led by Ajla Basic who tossed a personal best 60.35 meters which ranks fourth all-time in WKU history. In the men's ring, Kaison Barton put his name into the record books with a new personal best of 58.16 meters which is third all-time.
On the upcoming meet head coach Brent Chumbley said "It is always good to run at an SEC meet. Halfway through the season I want to see where we are as we look at our tapering cycle coming up."
The meet kicks off a stretch of four straight meets for WKU hosted by power five programs. The Hilltoppers will be competing against the likes of Belmont, Illinois State, Jacksonville State, Vanderbilt, and host Ole Miss this weekend.
Friday, the meet gets underway with the women's hammer throw, slated to begin at 11 a.m. with the men's event following behind. The final field event of the day will be the men's javelin, set for 5:30 p.m. On the track the 200 meter dash gets underway at 5:15 p.m.
Saturday, the women's shot put kicks things off at 10:30 a.m. The women's high jump group will also compete then with the men scheduled for 2 p.m. The track day gets underway at 2 p.m. with the 4x100 meter relay. The day will commence at 5:55 p.m. with the women's and men's 4x400 meter relay races.
