Last time out, the Tops competed at the Joe Walker Invitational where multiple athletes made history. The meet was headlined by Katie Isenbarger who set the new school record for the high jump of 1.86 meters, smashing her previous record of 1.82 meters. Kameron Horton continued the good fortunes where he set a new PR in the 110 meter hurdles with a mark of 14.66. In the 100 meter dash, Horton claimed a first place finish, marking the second time with the other being the 200 at the Hilltopper Relays.
Those two performances led to both athletes being named Conference USA Athlete of the week. Isenbarger took home Female Field Athlete of the Week for the fifth time in her career. Horton was named Male Freshman and Track Athlete of the Week for his showing at Ole Miss.
On the upcoming meet, head coach Brent Chumbley said "What a great opportunity to compete at Kentucky this weekend. A lot of our kids competed there in high school and are looking forward to going back. Kentucky also hosts the NCAA first round so a smaller group of the team will use this as a preview meet."
WKU is set to compete against the likes of Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Notre Dame, Xavier, and host Kentucky during the weekend's events.
Friday, the decathlon gets the day started at 11 a.m. In the field, the women's hammer throw will start at 1:30 p.m. The final field event of the day is the women's pole vault, scheduled for 3 p.m.
On the track, at 3:30 p.m. the hurdles will be set up for the women's and men's 400 hurdles. The 200 will follow with the 3000 meter steeplechase culminating day one events at 5:30.
Saturday, the heptathlon and decathlon get underway in the morning. The first field event of the day, the women's discus is slated for 11 a.m. The men's and women's high jump teams will also kick off action at that time.Â
For Saturday track events, the 4x100 meter relays are set for 11:40 a.m., followed by the 5000 meter race. The day's events will commence with the women's and men's 4x400 meter relay, which is set for 2:30 p.m.
