BRIDGEPORT, W.V. – The WKU Men's Golf Team have logged their fourth top-three finish of the season after coming in third in the Mountaineer Invitational. This is the second straight top-three finish for WKU who has plenty of momentum going into the CUSA Championship.
Stephen Warren led the way for the Tops in the final round. Warren used a 2-under 70 final round to propel himself up the board by five spots. The Hilltopper junior put in four birdies and an eagle during his stellar final round. Warren ended the day tied for 12th.
Right behind Warren is freshman Gage Doyle. The Texas native finished tied for 16th which is his new career-best finish. Doyle put in four birdies today, back-to-back birdies on his 11th and 12th hole. He ended with an even-par 72 final round.
Coming in right outside of the top-20 for WKU is Luke Fuller. He had a strong final round for WKU, ending with an even-par 72. Fuller had an impressive stretch to close the first half of his final round, putting in three birdies on four of his final front nine holes. Fuller was also sixth in the field in par 4 s with a 3.97 average. Fuller finished tied for 21st.
Logging another top-25 finish, Nic Hofman tied for 2th5 for WKU. Hofman ended his day with an even-par 72. He proved to be one of the most consistent golfers in the field, meeting par 37 times which is good enough for third in the field. Hofman also put in four birdies during this round and ended the tournament with a 221 total score.
Connery Meyer made another improvement for the Tops today, moving up six spots to tie for 81st. Meyer had an incredibly strong final round, shaving off nine strokes to finish with a 1-under 71. The WKU senior put in four birdies and an eagle during his final 18 today.
Team-wise, WKU put in 47 total birdies and was third in the field in Par 5s with a 4.85 average.
The Red and White will be back in action for the CUSA Championship. The Tops will travel to Texarkana, Arkansas to take on the Texarkana Country Club. Tee times and pairings have yet to be announced.
