TEXARKANA, Ark. – The WKU Men's Golf Team finished day one of the CUSA Tournament Monday afternoon in Texarkana, Arkansas. The Red and White were led by graduate student Luke Fuller who is tied for first heading into round two.
Fuller lead the way for the Tops in round one after posting his new season best round after turning in a 68. Fuller spent the entirety of the first round under par. The graduate student put in five birdies, including three in a row on his final three holes. He also led the entire field in Par 4s with a 3.70 average.
Nic Hofman is currently in the top-15 for the Tops as well. Hofman is tied for 13th after scoring a 1-over 73. The Indiana native put in two birdies and is tied for first in the field in Par 3s with a 2.75 average.
Junior Riley Grindstaff is in the top-25 after having a hot shooting round, putting in five birdies, three of which were in a row on holes seven, eight, and nine. The Hilltopper junior currently holds a 2-over 74 round one score.
Rounding out the day for the Red and White are Stephen Warren and Gage Doyle. Warren posted an 8-over 80 first round, but had a strong closing for WKU putting in back-to-back birdies on his back nine. Freshman Gage Doyle is looking to rebound tomorrow and climb up the board following a 12-over 84 first round.
As a team, WKU put in 14 birdies and have met par 51 times.
The CUSA Championship continues for the Red and White tomorrow for an 8:00 A.M. tee time.
