BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Women's Tennis will return to Alabama to face Alabama A&M on Wednesday at 1 p.m. CT at the AAMU Tennis Courts after playing two matches in Birmingham last weekend.
The Lady Toppers (9-7) are coming off losses at Samford on Friday and UAB on Saturday, snapping a six-match winning streak.
"I think that it was more like a lesson because we just had the six-game winning streak," said WKU junior Rachel Hermanova, who broke the program's career singles wins record Friday. "This was kind of like, 'Look, we're not there yet. We have to work harder, do things better.'"
The Lady Toppers have been led in singles play this season by Sofia Blanco, who boasts a 14-1 record. Hermanova has won four straight singles matches, including her record-breaking 45th career match Friday at Samford. Samantha Martinez has led WKU in doubles matches with an 11-3 record this season, and she has won seven consecutive matches with Mariana Zegada.
WKU is 10-1 all-time against Alabama A&M with wins in the last nine meetings. The Lady Toppers claimed a 7-0 victory over the Bulldogs last season in Bowling Green.
Alabama A&M sits at 4-11 this season entering Wednesday's match.
"I think (it's better if we focus) on ourselves," Martinez said. "We've played them in the past, but it's better if we focus on ourselves and the things we can control when we play matches."
