BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Women's Tennis will travel to Evansville, Indiana, for matches against Austin Peay and Southern Indiana on Saturday. The Lady Toppers are scheduled to face the Governors at 10 a.m. CT and the Screaming Eagles at 3 p.m. CT at the Evansville Tennis Center.
"It's going to be very difficult," WKU Head Coach Greg Davis said. "Austin Peay's one of those teams in my tenure we just haven't been able to get across the finish line and get a W. I think a couple years ago we were 4-3 with them here, so that was close, but they're very talented again, have a top-100 Division I singles player at the top of the lineup, as well as great depth. They're going to be a tough team to play, and then USI is very much improved this season."
The Lady Toppers enter the Saturday doubleheader with a 2-3 overall record after beating Southeast Missouri at home and falling to Lipscomb on the road last weekend. Sofia Blanco has led WKU in singles play so far this season with a 5-0 record, while Mariana Zegada is also unbeaten in singles at 3-0. The duos of Paola Cortez/Anna-Marie Kopecka and Blanco/Samantha Martinez are each 3-1 in doubles play through five matches.
WKU is 29-13 all-time against Austin Peay, but the Govs have won each of the last five matchups. Austin Peay is 0-4 so far this season with losses to Murray State, Belmont, Louisville, and Memphis.
The Lady Toppers are 5-1-1 against Southern Indiana with wins in the last three meetings. Last season's match in Bowling Green marked the first between the two programs since the 2014 season. The Screaming Eagles are 1-2 in 2024 with a win at Thomas More and losses at Cincinnati and Dayton.
