NASHVILLE, Tenn. – WKU Women's Tennis lost to Lipscomb 5-2 on Sunday at the Ensworth High School Tennis Center in Nashville, Tenn.
The Lady Toppers fell to 2-3 with the loss.
"Fought back really hard in singles," WKU Head Coach Greg Davis said. "Lipscomb is a very deep and talented team. I'm proud of how the team performed under pressure and fought until the end."
WKU picked up singles victories in the match from Sofia Blanco and Mariana Zegada. Blanco defeated Rut Galindo 2-6, 6-3, 6-1, and Zegada defeated Anja Trbeznik 6-3, 6-2.
Lipscomb (4-0) claimed the doubles point with victories in the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to open the match. Mariia Dolzhenko and Sofiia Paladi defeated Paola Cortez and Anna-Marie Kopecka 6-2, and Trbeznik and Sonia Pieczynska defeated Sayda Hernandez and Zegada 6-2. Lipscomb's Sasha Dobranos and Galindo were leading Blanco and Samantha Martinez 4-3 when the doubles point was decided.
In singles, Cortez fell to Dobranos 6-3, 6-1; Rachel Hermanova fell to Paladi 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (10-8); Kopecka fell to Dolzhenko 7-5, 6-3; and Sunskrithi Damera fell to Pieczynska 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
WKU will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 10, for matches against Austin Peay and Southern Indiana in Evansville, Ind.
