LYNCHBURG, Va. – Highlighted by an impressive showing in the high jump, WKU Track and Field concluded action at the 2024 Conference USA Indoor Championships Saturday at Liberty. In total 13 Hilltoppers managed top-10 finishes in their respective events.
"We are extremely proud of the group that we brought. They stepped up and exceeded our expectations," said associate head coach Anthony Acklin.
"We had over 20 personal best or season best. It's always great when they give their all and leave it on the track. I challenged them before the meet started and they answered. To come out and score more points on the men's and women's side than last year with a small group is exciting and gives us momentum for outdoor season."
In total, the men's team garnered 37 points and the women managed 33.Â
Emilia Lesniak led the way for the Red and White taking home the women's high jump championship, clearing 1.75 meters. Fellow Hilltopper Grace Turner joined her on the podium, recording a second place finish.Â
In the triple jump, Haley Zell earned the women's team a point with her eighth place finish, setting a new personal best.
For the men, Julian Klenner led the way notching a pair of top-five finishes including a podium finish in the 400 meter dash. He took home third finishing in 47.65.Â
Continuing the good high jump fortunes, Nick Fornoff notched a third place finish, marking the fourth podium finish for WKU in the day's events.
Freshman Kameron Horton set a new season best time in the 60 meter hurdles, claiming fifth place. In the ring, Luke Stegman led the way for the Tops in the shot put, taking seventh with a season best 15.48 meter throw.
In the final event of the day, the men's 4x400 meter relay team managed a top-five finish.
