BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Women's Tennis will open the 2024 season with a match at Eastern Kentucky on Sunday, Jan. 14. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. CT and will be played at the Greg Adams Tennis Center in Richmond, Kentucky.
"Looking forward to visiting EKU and getting started this weekend," WKU Head Coach Greg Davis said. "EKU is a very much improved team and we have a great deal of respect and admiration for their program and coaching staff."
Davis, who is entering his sixth season at the helm, has led the Lady Toppers to two of its three winningest seasons in program history the last two years. WKU went 15-11 overall last season, which included Conference USA victories over UTEP and North Texas, and posted an 18-9 mark in 2022, with a 2-1 record in regular-season CUSA play.
The Lady Toppers return plenty of talent from recent years, including all seven players from the 2023 season – Sofia Blanco, Paola Cortez, Sunskrithi Damera, Rachel Hermanova, Sayda Hernandez, Samantha Martinez, and Mariana Zegada. WKU also brought in one newcomer in Anna-Marie Kopecka, a senior transfer from Campbell University.
EKU is coming off a 5-19 season in 2023.
WKU and EKU last met early last season – a 7-0 Lady Topper victory. WKU has won three consecutive matches in the series, but EKU leads the series between the two programs 10-7. The Lady Toppers also saw the Colonels this fall at the MTSU Invitational in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and posted a 7-0 record in singles matches and a 2-0 record in doubles play against EKU during the event.
