About the Lady Toppers
- The Lady Toppers got their second win of the season on Friday night at Southern Utah, 76-62. WKU was led by sophomore Acacia Hayes who dropped 21 points in the game on 9-of-13 shooting from the field, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Junior Alexis Mead joined her in double figures with 11 points. Senior Teresa Faustino dished out a career high seven assists and had a team-leading four steals.
- WKU is the midst of playing four games in eight days with three of those games on the road.
- Staley's six blocks against Mercer in the season opener is tied for the most blocks nationally in the young 2023-24 season. The six blocks are tied for the third most blocks in a game by a WKU player all-time and is tied for the most by a Lady Topper freshman. Her seven total blocks this season is the most in Conference USA and the fifth most of any player in the nation.
- Two games into the 2023-24 season, WKU's defense is once again putting up big numbers. The Lady Toppers are averaging 16.5 steals per game, which tops CUSA and is 16th nationally. WKU is forcing teams into 25.5 turnovers per game, which is also the best average in the league and the 32nd most in the country.
- WKU was picked to finish tied for second place in the Conference USA preseason coaches poll released earlier in October. The Lady Toppers are coming off a second place CUSA finish in 2022-23, a championship game appearance in the CUSA tournament and a WNIT berth.
- Hayes and Mead were named to the CUSA Preseason All-Conference Team in October.
- Hayes was WKU's leading scorer in 2022-23, averaging 11.2 points per game. She's the first WKU freshman to lead the team in scoring since Crystal Kelly (2004-05).
