NORFOLK, Va. — WKU Hilltopper Basketball heads to Old Dominion for a Saturday road game at 6 p.m. CT. The game will air on ESPN+.
Â
The Hilltoppers snapped a five-game slide Thursday with a 78-59 blowout of Charlotte – the team's first true road win of the season. Old Dominion routed Marshall 79-64 at home Thursday.
Â
WKU is 21-22 all-time against the Monarchs. The Tops won the last matchup 60-57 at home on March 6, 2021, to clinch the C-USA East Division title. WKU head coach Rick Stansbury is 6-6 in his career against Old Dominion.
TOP STORYLINES
Â
• As of Friday, WKU leads the country in fewest fouls per game (12.3) and ranks sixth in total blocks (130), eighth in blocks per game (5.9), 21st in total steals (192), 32nd in steals per game (8.7), 34th in field-goal percentage (47.5%) and 49th in total assists (331).
Â
• Last month, junior center Jamarion Sharp was named to the watch list for the Naismith Men's National Defensive Player of the Year. This is the second straight year WKU has put a player on the list, with Charles Bassey making the semifinals for the award last season. WKU is one of just four schools – along with Baylor, Tennessee and Richmond – to have a player on the watch list the last two seasons.
Â
• Jamarion Sharp is the tallest player in college basketball at 7 feet, 5 inches. He's also the tallest player in the history of the Hilltopper program. Sharp leads the nation in total blocks (96) and blocks per game (4.4), is second in block percentage (17.3%) and tied for third in total dunks (54).
Â
• Jamarion Sharp has more blocks by himself this season (96) than 302 Division I programs have as a team, which is 86% of all D-I teams.
Â
• Sophomore guard Dayvion McKnight is the only player in the country averaging at least 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and one steal per game this year. He ranks seventh nationally in total assists (139) and assists per game (6.3).
Â
• Fifth-senior senior guard Josh Anderson has 10 steals in WKU's last two games. He ranks fifth in the nation and first in C-USA in steals per game (2.5), as well as 12th nationally in total steals (48).
Â
LAST GAME AGAINST OLD DOMINION: MARCH 6, 2021
Â
The Hilltoppers outlasted Old Dominion 60-57 in a Senior Night regular-season finale at Diddle Arena, claiming the C-USA East Division title and the best overall record in the league.
Â
To get to that point, the Hilltoppers had to overcome a tough shooting night that saw them score just 15 field goals with 17 turnovers. But WKU clamped down defensively in its own right, holding Old Dominion to 38.9% shooting from the field and 28.6% from 3-point range, including a 2-for-11 effort from deep in the second half.
   Â
The game was tied at 57-all when WKU inbounded with less than 30 seconds to play. Senior guard Taveion Hollingsworth drove to his left, found an opening and hit a tough floater with the foul for the lead. Hollingsworth paced WKU with 19 points on his Senior Night.
