BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With a mid-season schedule change, Lady Topper Golf is quickly turning its attention to The Southern hosted by Georgia Southern, a 54-hole event that begins Monday.

Due to extenuating circumstances in Florida, WKU's originally scheduled event of the Pat Bradley Invitational in Sarasota was canceled. The Lady Toppers were able to squeeze into Georgia Southern's event in early October and are prepared to play in the event for the very first time at the par-72, 6,036-yard Savannah Golf Club in Savannah, Ga.
The first Golfstat rankings of the season were released on October 11. WKU as a team was announced as No. 100 while freshman Sydney Hackett debuted in the rankings at No. 157. Only 250 Division I golfers are ranked and Hackett is just two spots off WKU's highest-ever ranking in Mary Joiner who was No. 155 at one point in her career.
The strong field consists of just nine teams total including No. 58 Kennesaw State, host No. 70 Georgia Southern, No. 75 Yale, No. 84 North Florida, No. 95 Incarnate Word, No. 98 Campbell, No. 100 WKU, Augusta and Seminole State.
WKU will be led into the tournament by junior Rachel Rich in the first spot. Rich most recently tied for ninth at the Lady Paladin Invitational in her home state of South Carolina. She is followed in the lineup by senior Sarah Arnold.
In the third spot is freshman Averi Cline followed by fifth-year senior Kenlie Barrett. Rounding out the lineup is Hackett who currently leads the Lady Toppers in scoring average at 71.9 shots per round.
There will be two Lady Toppers playing as individuals at The Southern: sophomore Catie Craig and junior Addie Westbrook.
