Schedule of Events
Most recently, the Hilltoppers had a strong showing at the Kentucky Invitational where the squad returned with 17 top-10 finishes, including nine top-five placements across eight different events. Male pole vaulter Devon Montgomery cleared a career-best 4.73 meters, marking the third-best height in school history. Throwers, distance runners and sprinters all joined in with personal bests and top-five finishes.
The squad currently has several competitors in contention for final races/flights as well as podium finishes at the C-USA Championships. Alexis Williams' 11.69 100-meter time from the Gamecock Invitational is third in the conference while her 200-meter time of 23.58 from the same meet is second. Marlowe Mosley, who placed third in the 200 and 400 at the Indoor C-USA Championships, holds the eighth and fifth fastest times in the league in those events.
Freshman Casey Buchanan is inside the top-10 times for the 800-meter while Clint Sherman and Dedrick Troxell are seventh and ninth, respectively, in the 1500. Savannah Heckman holds the seventh fastest-time in the women's 5k. Grace Turner, who finished on the high jump podium in indoor, has only competed in high jump twice this outdoor season and has the eighth-best mark in the league.
For the throwers, Kaison Barton's most recent shot put mark of 16.60 meters is fifth in the conference while John Elam holds the eighth-best mark in the hammer throw.
WKU will begin competition on Friday afternoon with the women's hammer throw at 2 p.m. CT, followed by the men's at 4:30 p.m. The women will run in the 10k beginning at 8 p.m. followed by the men's event closing the evening at 9 p.m.
On Saturday, nearly all running events are preliminary races while field events are heats with finals. The Red and White will start the day with women's pole vault and men's discus at 3:30 p.m. On the track, WKU will start with the men's 1500-meter prelims at 3:45. The Hilltoppers will also compete in the women's 100, 200 and steeplechase and the men's 100, 200, 400 and 800 on Saturday. The steeplechase on Saturday evening is considered a final race.
As the Championships come to a close, WKU will compete in men's pole vault beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday followed by women's javelin and men's shot put at 3:30. The field events for the Hilltoppers will conclude with women's high jump at 4:30 p.m.
On the track, the day will begin with relays and cycle through the finals of every race from Saturday. The 5k will be run just once on Sunday beginning at 6:05 p.m. for the women, and the 4x400-meter relay will conclude the meet.
