TOP STORYLINES
- WKU Softball has never crossed paths with Florida in the program's history. The Gators will mark the 12th different SEC squad the Hilltopper program has faced.
- Since 2000, WKU Softball has played 11 different SEC squads. The Hilltoppers have gone 20-46 up against SEC opposition. Under Coach Tudor's reign, the 2014-2021 squads have gone head-to-head with seven of the SEC programs, putting together a record of 7-13. In 2014 the Red and White took down No. 2 Tennessee on the Volunteers' home turf; Tudor's second game coaching for WKU against an SEC school. Over the 2017 opening weekend, WKU Softball headed to Starkville, Miss., and took down the host Bulldogs in a 1-0 decision. WKU dropped decisions to No. 8 LSU and No. 18 Kentucky in 2018 along with No. 17 Auburn during its opening weekend of the 2019 campaign. On March 26, 2019, WKU headed to Lexington and took down No.17-ranked Kentucky on the Wildcats' home field. Most recently, WKU upset No. 7 Kentucky on a ninth-inning walk-off single from Kennedy Sullivan on March 24, 2021.
- The walk off win over Kentucky was the Hilltoppers' first win over a ranked team this season. This was also WKU's first win over a top-10 ranked opponent since 2014, when the Tops beat Tennessee.
- WKUs April 1-3 series at Marshall was postponed due to a positive COVID-19 case in the Hilltoppers' Tier 1 testing group and subsequent contact tracing. A make-up date has not been set yet.
- WKU has now had 13 games postponed or canceled due to COVID-19 protocols, scheduling changes or inclement weather.
- The Hilltoppers will get two of those games back, plus an exhibition game, this coming weekend as the team announced they'll head to Gainesville, Fla., this weekend to visit No. 5 Florida for a pair of contests. WKU will also face former Hilltopper Larissa Franklin and her Canadian National Team crew in an exhibition outing.
- This season, Kelsey Aikey added both her 500th career strikeout and 17th career save. She is just the fourth Hilltopper to reach the 500-strikeout milestone and now sits 41 strikeouts away from owning the record. She has owned the program's save record since her junior season and ranks second among all active NCAA Division I pitchers with 17 saves.
- Former Hilltopper Softball player Larissa Franklin is a member of the Canadian National Team and will face off against her former squad in Saturday's exhibition. Franklin is one of four current or former members of WKU Softball to be featured on the WKU Athletics' Beyond the Hill podcast.
- In early February, redshirt-junior catcher Kendall Smith was named 1-of-30 Senior CLASS Award Candidates. She joins fellow Hilltopper Aikey as two of the three selections in program history.
- WKU Softball was predicted to win the Conference USA East Division by league coaches, receiving eight first place votes. Individually, pitcher Aikey and Shelby Nunn, along with Smith were named to the Preseason All-Conference Team.
