LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Seven WKU Softball student-athletes have been recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as 2020-21 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes, the organization announced Wednesday afternoon. Additionally, WKU was recognized as a team for its 3.41 collective GPA across the 2020-21 school year.
WKU honorees include Kelsey Aikey, Paige Carter, Kennedy Foote, Katie Gardner, Shelby Nunn, Madeline Rider and Kendall Smith.
As a team, the Hilltopper squad posted a 3.41 cumulative GPA for the 2020-21 school year. That mark ranked in the top-100 across all Division I programs. In total, 121 teams recorded a combined GPA of 3.00 or better to earn the 2020-21 Easton NFCA Team GPA recognition.
In total, 1,982 student-athletes were recognized at the Division I level as All-America Scholar-Athletes. Over 8,800 student-athletes were named 2021 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes, the Association announced on Tuesday afternoon. With the highest total in Association history, it marked the second consecutive year (2018-19) achieving the 8,000-plus plateau.
To be recognized, an individual must own a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better.
