BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Softball is set to open the 2020 season this weekend in Troy, Ala., at the Trojan Classic. Five games are on the slate for the Hilltoppers as the squad will play doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday before taking the field for the final time on Sunday. After losing a total of three starters and six letterwinners from its 2019 squad, the Red and White return 11 letterwinners and have welcomed nine newcomers to the squad this season.

Weekend action will open Friday morning with its first of three 2020 tilts against Lipscomb. The series between WKU and Lipscomb is currently tied at 15-15. The Bison are coming off a 42-15-1 campaign.
WKU's second game of opening day will be against College of Charleston who owns the lone decision in previous meetings between the sides. CofC went 26-30 a season ago.
Saturday morning, the Hilltoppers will face North Florida with a 9 a.m. first pitch. The Ospreys posted a 30-24 record last season and lead the all-time series with WKU, 1-0. At 2 p.m. that afternoon, the Tops will take on the host Trojans. That contest is schedule to be streamed on Facebook Live for free. Troy owned a 37-20 record in 2019 and leads the all-time series 18-15.
Weekend action will conclude on Sunday with another go-around with North Florida. WKU's finale is slated for 10 a.m.
WKU Softball has claimed its season-opener in each of the last seven seasons and will look to extend the streak to include the 2020 campaign. Head coach Amy Tudor is 15-0 in her career in season-opening contests entering her 16th season as at the helm of a program.
The squad features three student-athletes in their final seasons at WKU. Pitcher Kelsey Aikey, outfielder Paige Carter and infielder Morgan McElroy each wore a Hilltopper jersey for the first time during the 2017 campaign and have posted a 96-70 record during their time on The Hill.
WKU Softball has been predicted to finish second in the Conference USA Preseason Coach Poll. The Red and White received a pair of first-place votes while earning their highest preseason ranking in their time in the league. Additionally, pitcher Kelsey Aikey and catcher Kendall Smith were selected to the C-USA Preseason All-Conference Team.
