BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – WKU Track and Field wrapped up the 2019 Conference USA Indoor Championships with four All-Conference performances across the two-day meet hosted by UAB. Martin Owusu-Antwi, Katie Isenbarger and the men's 4x400-meter relay each recorded second-team All-Conference performances while Annastacia Forrester earned third-team All-Conference recognition. Collectively, the Hilltoppers finished ninth in the team standings while the Lady Toppers placed 10th.
Â
"We had some solid performances in this championship meet," head coach Erik Jenkins opened. "Our sprinters made some progress throughout the meet. Additionally, I was really proud of the way our ladies competed in the jumps. They posted several solid marks and fought to beat national-caliber athletes."
Â
In her first Conference USA Track and Field Championships appearance, Katie Isenbarger earned second place in the women's high jump with a school-record clear of 1.80 meters (5' 10.75"). That mark ties her for the 14th-best mark in the NCAA with just one freshman owning a better reading. Isenbarger is the fifth Lady Topper in program history to earn All-Conference recognition in the indoor high jump, joining Sandra Akachukwu for C-USA honors.
Â
Annastacia Forrester joined Isenbarger on the high jump podium with a third-team All-Conference outing after clearing 1.71 meters (5' 7.25") to tie for third place. Both Isenbarger and Forrester's jumps were career bests.
Â
Continuing in the women's field events, Getter Lemberg finished tied for fourth place in the pole vault after recording a 3.76-meter (12' 4") clear – a new indoor career best for the senior.
Â
As the day went on, the Lady Toppers saw two more individuals pick up points in the triple jump. Myesha Nott took home a fourth-place finish with a 12.72-meter (41' 8.75") bound. The mark doubles as the second-best triple jump reading in indoor program history. Forrester secured points in the event as well, finishing eighth with a career-best 12.14-meter (39' 10") jump.
Â
On the track, the Lady Toppers saw Juannae Lewis run a personal-best 200-meter mark of 24.17 to earn fourth place. The reading is WKU's best time of the indoor season.
Â
The Lady Toppers' top times continued into the distance events as Savannah Heckman (10:51.68), Morgan Kannapel (11:33.08) and Lauren Roby (12:11.71) all ran their season best times in the 3,000-meter race.
Â
On the men's side, Will Bush got Sunday's scoring started with a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter dash as the senior ran a 6.88. In the 400 meter dash, Oliver Alexandre and Kymari Gates finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Alexandre ran a 47.16 while Gates clocked a 47.30.
Â
WKU saw senior Abdur Kelly earn a seventh-place finish in the 800-meter run finals. Kelly ran a 1:54.29 – his best mark as a Hilltopper.
Â
In the men's 200-meter dash, two Hilltoppers earned top-eight finishes as Martin Owusu-Antwi picked up second-team All-Conference honors. Owusu-Antwi ran a 21.04, WKU's season-best mark in the event. Austin Hayes also collected points for the Red and White with an eighth place finish after running a 21.89.
Â
On the men's distance side, Emerson Wells (8:54.30), Dedrick Troxell (8:56.12), Ethan Snyder (9:19.17) and Luke Hoover (9:19.92) all run season-best times in the 3,000-meter race.
Â
Brett Brannon recorded his second personal best in as many days after posting a mark of 11.75 meters in the men's shot put.
Â
WKU wrapped up the meet with a second-team All-Conference performance by its men's 4x400-meter relay squad. Lincoln Warren, Owusu-Antwi, Alexandre and Gates combined for a 3:09.26 reading – a mark that surpassed the prior Conference USA Championships meet record.
