Kenny Perry Invitational Final Results
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Redshirt sophomore Billy Tom Sargent notched his second victory of the season Tuesday, claiming the win on WKU's home course in the Kenny Perry Invitational.
Sargent, a native of Georgetown, Ky., fired a 3-under 69 for the second straight round in Tuesday's finale at The Club at Olde Stone, holding off Eastern Kentucky's Will Sallee by two strokes with an 8-under, three-round total of 208 (70-69-69) -- matching the best 54-hole effort of his career.
After starting his round 3 over through five holes, Sargent went 6 under the rest of the way -- with four birdies and an eagle -- to claim the victory. Sargent also earned co-medalist honors this year at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate in WKU's first event of the season.
"I was really proud of the way Billy Tom finished up his tournament," WKU head coach Phillip Hatchett said. "He played so solid today, especially after getting off to a rough start."
The Hilltoppers finished third as a team with a 7-over total of 871 (284-292-295), behind champion Eastern Kentucky (860) and runner-up Jacksonville State (869).
Along with Sargent, WKU had two other players finish in the top 15, including freshman Tom Bevington, who was competing as an individual in the second event of his college career.
Bevington shot a career-low, 2-under 70 in Tuesday's final round, tying for fifth overall with a 1-under 215 (73-72-70) total. Redshirt freshman Linus Lo tied for 14th with a 3-over 219 (72-74-73) tally, the best finish of his young career.
Sophomore Stuart Easton had his best outing of the season, tying for 18th with a 221 (70-75-76). Freshman Kyle Jeffers tied for 22nd at 223 (72-74-77), which was also his best finish yet. Sophomore Blake Smith tied for 44th at 230 (74-76-80), as did redshirt senior Nick Thompson (77-78-75) while competing as an individual.
WKU juniors Bryant Evans (243) and Colin Frizzell (244) also competed as individuals and finished 67th and 68th, respectively.
"All in all, I'm really proud of the guys," Hatchett said. "It was a super tournament for these guys. I'm really excited about the field that we had. It was a lot of fun, and I think the tournament was a total success."
The Hilltoppers are off until they compete at South Alabama's David Miller Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 29-30.
