BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The WKU women's soccer team (3-2-2) will host Memphis (4-1-1) on Friday at 6:00 PM at the WKU Soccer Complex to conclude non-conference play for the Lady Toppers.
WKU is coming off of three consecutive double overtimes, the longest streak of double overtimes in program history, against Valparaiso, Mercer and Georgia State. Two of those games featured Hannah Chua as the difference maker for the Lady Toppers, scoring a Golden Goal and an equalizer against Mercer and Georgia State.
WKU has put together a 2-0-2 record in the last four games aided by an improved Lady Topper defense with Allison Leone recording 17 saves and Olivia Fitzgerald as the anchor in the center of the defense. The junior Fitzgerald has provided a vocal leadership that has helped organize the WKU backline. In that four game span, WKU has given up only three goals after giving up nine goals in the first three games of the season.
Chua and Iris Dunn have produced the majority of the WKU goals in the non-conference portion of the schedule with each recording three goals. Haley Baldridge, Hannah Cady and Chandler Clark have each scored a goal as well this season. Nahyo Jalajel leads the team with three assists on the season.
Memphis hosted UT Martin and Idaho last weekend, adding two wins to their record. The Tigers topped UT Martin 1-0 and outlasted Idaho 4-3 in double overtime. Memphis also has wins against UAB and Alabama.
Valerie Sanderson and Elizabeth Woerner lead the Tigers with three goals each. Sanderson scored two goals in the first half against Idaho.
WKU is 0-3 all-time against Memphis. Two of the times that WKU has faced Memphis, the Tigers were ranked in the Top 25.
The game will be featured on WKUSports.tv for a paid subscription fee. The first 100 fans at the game will receive a free WKU bandana.
Season tickets are available online at wkusports.com or by calling the WKU ticket office at 1-800-5-BIGRED. A $25 flexible ticket package is available that includes home games against Memphis, Rice, Louisiana Tech, FIU, Marshall and Florida Atlantic.
