NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- The WKU softball team (15-6, 2-1) split it doubleheader at Lipscomb on Tuesday, winning game one 9-2 before falling in the late game 3-1 at Draper Diamond.
For the pair of games, Larissa Franklin and Dani Pugh led the team with a .400 average, going 2-for-5. Brooke Holloway's two hits for the day came with solo home runs, her first homers of the season. In the circle, Miranda Kramer (10-4) highlighted the day with 16 strikeouts in the win.
WKU returns to Conference USA play with a three-game series at North Texas this weekend. The games in Denton begin on Saturday with a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m. CT before concluding with a single game on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.
GAME ONE--WKU 9, Lipscomb 2
A five-run fifth inning opened the game up for WKU, taking game one 9-2 over the Bisons.
Kramer posted her 12th double-digit strikeout effort of the year with 16 in the complete game. The senior allowed three hits, four walks and one earned run in the afternoon contest. Fellow classmate Preslie Cruce posted two runs and two hits while Holloway and Kayti Hanson each had two runs scored.
The teams each posted a run in the third inning with Cruce bringing in WKU's run off a RBI double down the left field line.
WKU quickly made it a 6-1 game in the fifth inning after a walk, hit by pitch and single loaded the bases and let Lexie Norfleet walk in a run. With two outs and bases remaining loaded, Hanson brought in a run off a hit by pitch before a three-run error in the Lipscomb outfield added the final scores.
Lipscomb cut it to 6-2 in the fifth after back-to-back stolen bases and an error brought in the run. WKU scored in the final two frames with Holloway lifting a high flyer out over left field in the sixth and Hanson scoring on another Lipscomb miscue in the seventh.
GAME TWO--Lipscomb 3, WKU 1
Lipscomb used back-to-back RBI doubles and a solo home run to pull ahead 3-0 after four frames played, as the Bisons would not relinquish the lead for the 3-1 win.
Holloway's solo shot in the sixth was WKU's only run of the game, as the junior also walked in the game. Franklin extended her hit streak to 13 games with a single in the seventh, tying the third longest hit streak in school history. She has also reached base in 15-consecutive contests. The Lady Toppers totaled six hits in the contest while Lipscomb pitcher's tabbed seven strikeouts.
Janna Scheff (1-1) started the game, giving up the three runs on five hits with a walk. Hannah Parker came in to pitch 2.1 innings of relief with two hits allowed and four strikeouts.
