SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The WKU women's soccer team gets a 1-0 win on the road in San Antonio, Texas against UTSA (1-10-1, 1-3-0 C-USA) to improve to 6-3-3 on the season and 2-1-1 in Conference USA.
For the second game in a row, WKU scored a goal in the first minute of the second half. This time it was Shayna Dheel with the score. Haley Baldridge found Dheel with a cross into the box and Dheel put it into the net. The score proved to be enough for the Lady Toppers, who held the Roadrunners scoreless in the game. The goal was Dheel's first goal of the season and the third of her career.
The Lady Toppers had 16 shots on the game with 11 on frame, marking a season high in shots on goal. Dheel led the team with three shots while nine other Lady Toppers recorded a shot in the game. Dheel was the seventh WKU player this season to score.
The shutout was sophomore goalkeeper Allison Leone's fourth shutout of the season and the four saves brought her season total to 49. The WKU defense allowed only eight shots by UTSA and only four were on goal. WKU held UTSA to only two corner kicks in the contest.
The UTSA keeper Katherine Tesno had 10 saves in the game. Only five Roadrunners were able to get a shot off against WKU. Gracie Knight had four shots and all four were on goal.
With a win and a tie, WKU leaves Texas with four points and seven total points on the season in Conference USA.
WKU will take on rival Middle Tennessee on Oct. 9 in Murfreesboro, Tenn. at 7:00 PM. Then the Lady Toppers will travel to take on UAB on Oct. 11 at 1:00 PM.
