- WKU falls to 1-1 on the season after splitting a pair of games with Bowling Green (won 59-31 last week) and Illinois to open the season. Illinois is 2-0 to begin the year.
- Today's game was the first meeting between WKU and Illinois.
Team Notes
- WKU has posted a 99-yard scoring drive in two of its last three games. Today, WKU took an 18-play drive over 99 yards in 5:58 to erase a 7-3 deficit to lead 10-7. WKU had a 16 play, 99 yard drive over 5:20 against Arkansas State on its final offensive possession of the 2013 season.
- WKU has now had an individual record at least 100 all-purpose yards in 46 straight games dating back to Oct. 9, 2010 as Leon Allen reached the mark today.
- WKU racked up 249 yards of total offense before halftime on its way to a 17-14 lead.
- The 456 passing yards allowed by WKU were the most allowed in a game by the Hilltoppers in the FBS era.
- For the second straight game, WKU had at least nine different receives catch a pass in the contest. WKU had 10 players make a pass reception against Illinois today.
Player Notes
- Junior running back Leon Allen finished with 118 rushing yards on 24 carries with one touchdown.

- It was Allen's first 100-yard rushing performance for Allen since his 132-yard performance against Southern Miss on Sept. 22, 2012. It was the second 100-yard game of his career but fifth of over 90 rushing yards.
- Allen has posted rushing touchdowns in consecutive games for the first time since the first two games of the 2013 season.
- Senior quarterback Brandon Doughty finished 28-of-48 for 297 yards, just three yards shy of the first back-to-back 300 yard passing games in WKU history.

- Doughty's interception in the fourth quarter ended a streak of 176 pass attempts without an interception. The streak dated to the second quarter of the Nov. 9, 2013 game at Army.
- Junior kicker Garrett Schwettman made a 41-yard field goal with 5:35 left in the first quarter. It was Schwettman's longest made field goal since a 44-yard field goal against South Alabama on Sept. 14, 2013. It was Schwettman's 25th career made field goal, becoming just the fifth player in program history to record 25 career field goals or more. He added another field goal during the third quarter.
- Junior tight end Tyler Higbee had his third career touchdown reception in the second quarter and first since Sept. 14, 2013 at South Alabama.
- Sophomore defensive tackle Devante Terrell posted his first career fumble recovery and first career pass breakup during the first quarter.
- Junior Wonderful Terry ripped a ball from an Illinois receive and returned it 95 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. It was the first fumble returned for a touchdown by WKU since Nov. 10, 2012 when Quanterus Smith had a 75 yard return for a score against FAU.

- The play is tied for the longest defensive touchdown in program history. It is tied with a 95-yard interception return by Bill Green vs. Morehead State on Nov. 1, 1969 and a Walt Apperson interception with a lateral to Jack Binkley for 95 yards on Nov. 8, 1952 against EKU.
- Junior Prince Charles Iworah recorded his first career interception during the third quarter.
- Junior Antwane Grant had a fourth quarter touchdown, meaning he has a touchdown reception in both WKU games this season.
