BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Football offensive lineman Nonso Omezi was named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List, the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce and SPORTyler announced Tuesday.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award honors the legacy of Texas legend Earl Campbell and his home community of Tyler, Texas. The award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: played football and graduated from a Texas High School, or currently be playing at a Texas Division I college.
Omezi, a Houston native who prepped at Westside High School, arrived at WKU during the offseason after spending three seasons at Houston Christian, where he appeared in 34 games and was a regular starter the last two seasons. He was named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2024 and 2023. In his first season at Houston Christian in 2023 way for the top rushing offense in the Southland Conference. Omezi played his freshman season at Texas A&M Commerce in 2022 and appeared in four games.
