- WKU returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 when the Lady Toppers face Texas State at 4:30 p.m. CT in E.A. Diddle Arena. The game is the annual Play4Kay game on the WKU schedule with fans encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness and in recognition of the legacy of former NC State coach Kay Yow. The first 500 fans will receive a pink rally towel and a donation bucket will be passed around during the game to support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. In addition, a silent auction will be held beginning at 3:30 p.m. CT in the Hall of Champions to benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Signed items from head coach Michelle Clark-Heard, the 2013-14 Lady Toppers and WKU legend Crystal Kelly are among the items available for auction. The auction will close at the conclusion of halftime intermission of the men's game that follows the Lady Topper game.
- The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was officially founded on December 3, 2007 from the vision of the organization's namesake Kay Yow, former NC State University head women's basketball coach. Coach Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 before succumbing to the disease on January 24, 2009. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved, and unifying people for a common cause. Coach Yow believed strongly that coaches share not only a community, but should also share in a cause much larger than the game. To date, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has supported more than $2.6 million in women's cancer research and related projects. For more information on the Kay Yow Cancer Fund or to make a donation, please visit www.Play4Kay.org.
- Yow's coaching career spanned more than 38 years, including 34 with NC State. She had a record of 737-344, which encompassed 20 NCAA championship bids, a Women's Final Four appearance in 1998 and four ACC Tournament championships. She also coached the U.S. Olympic women's team to a gold medal in 1988 and was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002 and the inaugural NC State Hall of Fame in October, 2012. Yow won the inaugural Jimmy V ESPNY for Perseverance award in 2007.
- The Lady Toppers learned more about Yow earlier this season when women's basketball ambassador Debbie Antonelli visited the WKU campus to talk with the team.
