VIDEO: Jason Neidell Breaks Down WKU's 1-1 Tie Vs. Austin Peay
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - WKU played its second 110 minute game of the season Thursday night against Austin Peay and as was the case last Friday against Rice, it wasn't enough time to decide the match as the Lady Toppers tied the Lady Governors 1-1 at the WKU Soccer Complex.
Austin Peay (3-0-1) drew first blood in the 61st minute when Tatiana Ariza scored her sixth goal of the season after knifing her way through WKU's backline.
It wouldn't take long for the Lady Toppers (1-1-2) to answer as sophomore Lauren Moats finished off a feed from freshman Christine Gordon just over two minutes later for her second goal of the season. Gordon was able to handle a rebound off Austin Peay goalkeeper Nikki Filippone's fingertips and dish it to Moats right in front of the goal for her first career assist.
After being outshot 16-9 in regulation, WKU dominated the two overtime periods with six shots compared to the Lady Governors one. Freshman Shelby Todd had the best look of the extra sessions, firing a low-liner on goal before a nice save from Filippone in the 104th minute.
Senior Chrissy Tchoula also had a decent look in the 108th minute, missing wide from the left side 18 yards out.
The draw was WKU's second of the season but keeps the Lady Toppers unbeaten record against Austin Peay alive as the all-time series now sits at 6-0-1 in WKU's favor.
WKU wraps up its five-game home stretch to open the season on Sunday when the Lady Toppers host Memphis at 1 p.m. For tickets and more information on WKU Soccer, call 1-800-5 BIGRED or visit WKUSports.com.
