BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - WKU sophomore Alanna Clancey netted her first-career goal in game-winning fashion Sunday afternoon at the WKU Soccer Complex as the Lady Toppers defeated Lipscomb 2-1.
Clancey's goal came in the 84th minute from just inside the 18-yard box as she beat a Lipscomb defender one-on-one and lobbed the ball over Lady Bison goalkeeper Anna Buhigas for the score.
WKU (2-3-4) dictated tempo for the large majority of the game and the tone was set immediately by freshman forward Iris Dunn, who fired three shots in the first 13 minutes of the game. She finished the game with a career-high six shots as the Lady Toppers outshot Lipscomb 13-7.
Sophomore Chandler Clark scored her first goal of the season and second of her career in the 38th minute after she won a header off senior Chrissy Tchoula's corner kick and used the help of the goal post to put the ball in the net. Tchoula's assist was her first of the season and the ninth of her career.
The Lady Toppers used both of their goalkeepers for the first time this season, getting three first-half saves from senior Nora Abolins before sophomore Nikki Hall saw her first action of the season in the second half.
Lipscomb (3-4-2) was able to score in the 60th minute, using Baylee Linnell's fifth goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. The match remained tied for 24 minutes before Clancey lifted WKU to victory with her game-winner.
