BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Junior forward Cena Carlson was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday, earning the honor for the first time.
Carlson led the Hilltoppers (11-1-6) to close out the regular season with a 3-1 victory over Middle Tennessee Sunday evening. WKU finished CUSA play with a 5-1-2 record. With the win, the Hilltoppers finished the regular season with a program record-tying one loss for just the third time in program history.
Against MTSU, Carlson tied her career high with four points and two goals, recording her third and fourth goals of the season. Her first goal came just eight minutes in as she found the back of the net with a diving header off a corner kick. At the 56-minute mark, she doubled the Hilltoppers' lead after finding the rebound of another Hilltopper shot and firing it into the left side of the net. In the match, Carlson recorded a career-high seven shots, with five being on goal.
The Hilltoppers will head to Newark, Delaware, for the CUSA Tournament next week. No. 2 WKU will take on No. 7 Kennesaw State on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m. CT at Grant Stadium.
