Abolins begins her first year as an undergraduate assistant after a stellar college career as a goalkeeper. Abolins was a force between the posts for WKU during her lone season on the Hill in 2013, shutting out nine opponents and finishing the year ranked 25th in the nation with a 0.68 goals against average. Abolins pitched seven of her nine shutouts in Sun Belt Conference play, including a clean sheet in the SBC Tournament semifinals to send WKU to the title match. Abolins 24 shutouts at Detorit-Mercy from 2010-12 coupled with her nine shutouts at WKU in 2013 moved her into a tie for 25th-place all-time in the NCAA record books with 33 career shutouts. She notched First-Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors and was named to the SBC All-Tournament Team. Abolins was also outstanding in the classroom, earning NSCAA First Team Scholar All-Region honors after compiling a 3.55 GPA as an exercise science major.
With Detroit-Mercy, Abolins was the 2012 Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year and a First-Team All-Conference honoree after shutting out a school record nine opponents. In all, she allowed just nine goals, compiled 60 saves, posted a 0.55 GAA and a .870 save percentage during the 2012 campaign. In 52 career games at Detroit, she compiled a 0.90 GAA mark and had 26 career wins to her credit.
As a prep, Abolins earned letters in volleyball, track and field, rugby and badminton at Centennial Secondary School. She played club soccer for the Toronto Jr. Lady Lynx and the Kingston Football Club, winning several championships with the Lady Lynx including competing in the North American Finals of the 2009 USL Super-Y League. Nora was also part of the Super-Y Olympic Development Program in 2007, where she was selected to participate in the camp[apos]s all-star final four competition.
