BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Former Western Kentucky University swimmer and gold-medal Olympian Claire Donahue continues to make her presence known in international competition, as she has qualified for Wednesday's finals in the 100 short course meters butterfly at the FINA World Cup in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
Placing fifth going into the 100 fly finals, Donahue will compete in the 50 fly on Thursday before taking off two days and traveling to Berlin, Germany, for the next round of the World Cup on August 10-11
Donahue was recently in Spain for the FINA World Championships where she placed eighth in the 100 fly finals and helped the 4x100 medley relay to a top time of 3:58.66 in the prelims.
The Lenoir City, Tenn., native became just the second WKU Olympic athlete to earn a medal at the Summer Olympics and the first to ever claim a gold medal, as she swam in the butterfly leg of the preliminary heats of the 4x100 medley relay in London to help guide Team USA to the finals. A four-year letterwinner with WKU swimming, Donahue currently holds five different records at WKU, including two individual records in the 100 and 200 butterfly.
