CLOPPENBURG, GERMANY - After spending one season as the goalkeeper for F.F. Yzeure Allier Auvergne in France, former WKU standout Libby Stout has signed her second professional contract with BV Cloppenburg of the Frauen Bundesliga in Germany.
Stout, the first and only professional soccer player in WKU history, started 18 games in between the posts for F.F. Yzeure Allier Auvergne during the 2012-13 season, pitching shutouts in five of those starts and seeing 1,552 minutes of total action.
She now joins BV Cloppenburg of the Frauen Bundesliga, widely considered one of the top leagues in the world.
"It is fantastic to have the opportunity to see a new country, experience a new culture, and attempt to learn a new language," said Stout. "Cloppenburg plays in arguably the best league in the world, so I am looking forward to experiencing an extremely high level of women's soccer."
Cloppenburg begins its 2013-14 season on Sept.1 when it takes on Fortuna Dresden of Germany's Regionalliga.
Stout became WKU's all-time leader in wins and minutes played during the 2011 season, posting a 45-17-11 record in goal during her career while recording 39 shutouts for the Lady Toppers. Her 39 shutouts are the second-most in NCAA history. In 76 career matches played, Stout set WKU career records for wins, shutouts, goals against average in 0.68, and save percentage at .860.
"My time at WKU is a huge reason I am playing professionally," said Stout. "My college years were instrumental in shaping the person and player I am today. My time in the classroom and on the field not only enabled me to discover and improve my leadership qualities, but also helped mold the mentality that one needs to be successful in a professional environment. Many thanks belong to the coaches, professors, and teammates who helped guide me during my time at WKU."
