BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The WKU soccer team did not spend its Wednesday afternoon on the field, but instead playing with campers at Camp Happy Days at the Kummer/Little Recreation Center in downtown Bowling Green.
Camp Happy Days is a camp program geared toward persons ages 6-35 with mental or physical challenges and is run by the staff at Bowling Green Parks and Recreation's Special Populations Department.
"One of the pillars and foundations for our program is character," said volunteer assistant coach Will Beddingfield. "Getting out and giving back to our community is one of those opportunities to build character. A lot of these kids come and watch the girls during the seasons so it's really good for our players to have a connection with them off the field as well."
The Lady Toppers spent their afternoon playing dodgeball, teaching campers a variety of dances and autographing posters.
"We really love getting out here, especially anything with kids," said senior midfielder Chrissy Tchoula. "It's really a joy. It gives to us just as much as it does to them."
