Day One Results
ROCKWALL, Texas- The Western Kentucky University women's swimming and diving team got the Sun Belt Conference Championships off to the right start, as after night one's events the Lady Toppers hold first place at the Rockwall Aquatic Center.
WKU holds the top spot with 72 points while FIU is second with 70 and host North Texas is third with 68. Rounding out the scorers is Florida Atlantic with 62 and UALR with 56.
"It was a great start to the meet," WKU head coach Bruce Marchionda said. "We won the 200 medley and then got third and a school record in the 800 free relay, which we were hoping to improve from last year's finish and we did.
"So it was a great start to day one. It was just two events and we have a long way to go, but the girls are excited for tomorrow."
The night started with the 200 medley relay, as the team of sophomore Allie Duff, sophomore Claire Conlon, junior Aiste Dobrovolskaite and sophomore Paige Drazga placed first with a time of 1:39.95.
Following the opening event, the 800 free relay of Duff, sophomore Susan Marquess, sophomore Hannah Runyon-Hass and freshman Michelle Craddock posted a school-record time of 7:17.28 to place third. Duff, Marquess and Runyon-Hass were on the relay team that set the previous record of 7:22.06 one year ago.
The four-day competition continues on Thursday, February 28 with preliminaries of 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and the three-meter diving at 11 a.m. and the finals along with the 200 free relay at 6:30 p.m.
