BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Western Kentucky University swimming and diving team found itself ranked in the top 45 of the Endless Pools/CollegeSwimming.com National Poll, as the men's team is 34th while the women rank 41st.
"I'm really proud of this team for the effort they have put forth and getting ranked in the national poll," said WKU head coach Bruce Marchionda. "However, the ranking doesn't mean anything if we don't keep working hard and keep improving. We have tough opponents ahead of us and a lot of swims left to go, but I'm confident that this team will only get better."
Both teams are coming off a tough loss to Big Ten opponent Northwestern, whose women rank 28th and men 30th in the recent poll, but gained positives from the meet, including junior Claire Conlon posting the fastest time in Conference USA in both breaststroke events and freshman Amy Crayne qualifying for NCAA Zone Championships on the three-meter board.
The Lady Toppers are one of three C-USA teams to find their names listed in the poll, as East Carolina is 35th and Rice is 40th.
The Endless Pools/CollegeSwimming.com Poll accounts for teams' top performances over previous four-week period and is the only objective ranking of college swimming for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, NAIA, and NJCAA.

WKU is off from competition this weekend, but returns to the pool Saturday, November 9 at noon CT at Cincinnati.
