FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.-The Western Kentucky University swimming team swept the competition at a tri-meet with Florida Atlantic and Nova Southeastern in dominating fashion to close out its training trip in Florida on Friday.
The men's team took a 163-42 win over NSU while defeating the Owls 147-58. On the women's side, WKU defeated the Sharks 166-39 while taking a 154-51 victory over the Sun Belt Conference foe.
"I am extremely excited about how we swam today," WKU head coach Bruce Marchionda said. "At this point in the training trip, we are tired and can't get up and swim well. I thought we handled it well and got up and raced well. I think this is a sign of good things to come."
WKU notched 16 individual wins through 18 events while going 1-2 in five events and sweeping the top three spots in two.
Michelle Craddock took first in two individual events, 100 and 200 free with times of 52.29 and 1:52.65, respectively. Seth Musser also tabbed a pair of top times with 1:52.33 in the 200 IM and 50.33 in the 100 back.
Ashley Forsyth and Loui Little earned first in their respective 1000 free to open the individual contests. The Tops also swept respective events in the 200 IM with Allie Duff and S. Musser, 100 fly with Aiste Dobrovolskaite and Heitor Rodrigues, 100 back with Hilary Mishler and S. Musser, and 100 breast with Amy Halligan and Luke Musser.
Paige Drazga and Hilary Mishler went 1-2 in the 50 free with Drazga at 24.25 and Mishler at 24.46. Aymeric Le Corno tabbed a first-place time of 4:35.30 in the 500 free.
The WKU relay teams also shined in Florida, as each of the respective 200 medley relays and 200 free relays came in with the best time to open and close the meet.
WKU closes out the regular season on Saturday, January 19 at 1 p.m. when the team hosts its Senior Day against Evansville at Bill Powell Natatorium.
