BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - WKU Soccer travels north for the first time this season when the Lady Toppers visit Muncie, Indiana for the Ball State Tournament where they will face first-time opponents Xavier and Northern Kentucky this weekend.
It is the first trip to Muncie, Indiana for the Lady Toppers in program history despite playing Ball State on two occasions previously.
The games will be a homecoming for five WKU players as Stephanie Lindsey (Indianapolis), Chrissy Tchoula (Noblesville), Allie Auscherman (Carmel), Alanna Clancey (Carmel) and Haley Haffner (Noblesville) all hail from the Hoosier State.
WKU finished the opening weekend of the season with a 1-1-0 record, posting a 3-0 win over Evansville and a 4-1 loss to Tennessee at the WKU Soccer Complex. WKU is now 9-2-3 in the program's last 14 games played.
WKU meets Xavier at 3:00pm ET on Friday. This is the first meeting between WKU and Xavier. Xavier is coming off a short week after last playing on Monday night against Lipscomb. The team recorded a 2-1 victory, scoring the winning goal in the 84th minute. The win on Monday marked the Musketeers' first of the season and the 100th career win for head coach Woody Sherwood.The Lady Toppers feature five players from the state of Ohio: Tanner Ruberg, Andrea Curry, Kiersten Ottaway, Nikki Hall and Buechel.
WKU meets in-state rival Northern Kentucky at noon ET on Sunday. It marks the first meeting between the teams as NKU is in its first season as a member of NCAA Division I. NKU began its inaugural Division I season with a 2-0 victory over Canisius last Friday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.
WKU returns home on Sept. 9 when the Lady Toppers host Vanderbilt at 1:00pm. Single game tickets are available through the WKU Ticket Office by calling 270-745-5222 or 1-800-5-BIG-RED. In addition, a game ticket package with nine vouchers that can be used for any game during the 2012 season are available for just $25 through the ticket office.
