SEWANEE, Tenn.-The Western Kentucky University diving team competed at the Sewanee Invitational Diving Meet over the weekend, as the team took home multiple first-place finishes.
"The diving team has shown great improvement since the season began," WKU head diving coach Andrew Goe said. "All the divers came in with a great attitude and a hard work ethic, which is making this a great season. This weekend Caitlin Dean broke the Sewanee three-meter, 11-dive pool record while Giorgi Meyer narrowly missed the zone qualifying score of 320 on the three-meter board. Rachel King was the most consistent diver we had this weekend scoring a season-best on the three meter.
"Brooks Price continues to make strides, as he improves his degree of difficulty on both boards. He came to WKU with no three meter experience and this weekend placed third on the three-meter, six-dive event. Caroline Alexander also came to the team with no three meter experience and placed second on the three-meter, six-dive event with a season-best score. As always, our team goal is to win our conference diving events."
Freshman King took first in the one-meter, six-dive event with a score of 159.90 while placing third in the three meter with six dives with a score of 181.05. Fellow classmate Alexander followed King in the one meter with a 133.35 and took second in the three-meter board with 184.80.
Senior Dean took the top score in the three-meter, 11-dive event with a 434.10 while finishing second in the one-meter, 11-dive evaluations with a score of 388.35.
On the men's side, freshman Meyer finished the meet with a pair of wins, as he scored 287.60 on the one-meter, six-dive event and 315.55 in the respective three-meter board. Freshman Price concluded the day with a second-place finish in the one-meter, six-dive contest scoring 182.05 and third in the three meter with 196.25.
