BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Western Kentucky University swimmers Claire Alexandre and David Menchinger have been recognized by the Sun Belt Conference as the SBC Swimmers of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Alexandre posted her strongest meet of the season on Saturday, picking up three individual event wins as the Lady Toppers claimed a 173.5 - 109.5 victory over Southern Illinois in the regular-season finale. Alexandre claimed the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 51.97 seconds, placed first in the 50 free with a season-best mark of 24.07 and rounded out the meet with a win in the 100 free, finishing in 52.76.
Menchinger helped lead the Hilltoppers to a 170-127 victory over Southern Illinois. Menchinger finished first in the 200-yard freestyle event with a season-best time of 1:40.53 and claimed the 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 4:35.30.
The honor is the first for both Alexandre and Menchinger, both seniors.
The WKU swimming and diving team has completed its regular-season schedule and now prepares for the 2011 Sun Belt Conference Swimming and Diving Champions, Feb. 23-26, in Rockwall, Texas.
