BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Western Kentucky University swimmer Adam Dajka and diver Vincent Rominger have been recognized by the Sun Belt Conference as the SBC Swimmer and Diver of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Dajka and Rominger were both key in WKU's first-place finish at the Hilltopper Invitational, Nov. 18-20, at Bill Powell Natatorium.
The Hilltoppers placed first in the men's competition with 1,838.5 points. Vanderbilt finished second with 1,118 points followed by University of the Cumberlands in third with 861.5 points.
Dajka recorded three-first place finishes between the finals and preliminaries of the three-day event. He placed first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:30.46 and also placed first in the preliminaries of the 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke with times of 1:40.86 and 1:49.41, respectively. Dajka did not compete in the finals of either event. The junior was also a member of the 800-freestyle relay team that set a pool record with a time of 6:43.14.
Rominger had one of his best meets of the season as he finished the Invite with a sweep of the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Rominger took first on the 1-meter with a score of 296.47 in the finals and finished the weekend with a win in the 3-meter with a score of 295.90. Both marks represented season highs for Rominger.
The honor is the first for Dajka and third career honor for Rominger. A total of five WKU swimmers and divers have been recognized this season.
WKU swimming and diving will return to action Saturday, Dec. 3 with a dual meet against Marshall and Fairmont State at Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium in Huntington, W. Va. A select group of swimmers will also head to Atlanta, Ga., to compete at the AT&T Winter Nationals, Dec. 1-3.
