BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU head men's golf coach Phillip Hatchett announced Monday the signings of three golfers to National Letters of Intent to hit the course for WKU in 2012.
Trey Aguirre from Navarre High School in Navarre, Fla., Nicholas Thompson of St. Mary's High School in Paducah, Ky., and Taylor Thompson from Louisville Collegiate High School in Louisville, Ky., make up the group of 2012 recruits for Hatchett, who recently completed his second fall season as the Hilltopper head coach golf.
"I am very excited about this recruiting class," he said. "These young men are extremely intelligent and committed to working hard towards our goals. They are exactly what we need to continue to build our team, and they will blend in nicely with the returning players."
Hatchett on Aguirre:
"Trey is a very intelligent young man with a huge upside talent-wise. He is a proven winner and can really shoot low scores when he gets it going. It is that kind of explosive play that I am looking for him to bring next year to help us achieve our goals."
Hatchett on Nicholas Thompson:
"Nick is a very polished player with a lot of experience on the national level. He has proven he can win big tournaments, and I look forward to him being a major contributor for us in his first semester at WKU."
Hatchett on Taylor Thompson:
Taylor is an extremely driven, hard-working young man. When he puts his mind to something, he is willing to do whatever is necessary to achieve his goal. Those leadership qualities will find a great home here in our golf program and at WKU. I expect great things from Taylor, and we are fortunate to have him."
The Hilltopper golf spring campaign begins on Monday, February 27 with the first round of the Charleston Shootout in Charleston, S.C.
