BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Western Kentucky University swimmer Claire Donahue finished eighth in the 100-meter butterfly at the 2010 ConocoPhillips National Championships in Irvine, Calif.
The WKU senior posted a time of 59.28 seconds in the "A" final after touching in at 59.15 in the preliminaries.
"It was fun watching Claire represent Western Kentucky University in the finals of the National Championships," WKU coach Bruce Marchionda said. " The A final was filled with past Olympians and World Championship finalist and for Claire to be amoung them is exciting for her and our program."
Donahue was one of only 16 female swimmers in the nation to be named All-American by CollegeSwimming.com after finishing 4th in the nation in the 100 Fly at the 2010 NCAA Swimming Championships. She became the first female swimmer and only the second person in WKU history to qualify for the finals session at an NCAA Championship meet (Steve Crocker, 4th in 50 freestyle in 1985).
She returns to the pool Thursday in the 200 butterfly and will then join teammates Brittany Doss, Kristiana Feeser and Meredith Dement to compete in the 400 medley relay Friday.
