BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Former WKU swimmer Sean Penhale wrapped up competition at the 2010 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships with three top-20 finishes, earning him the right to represent Canada at the XIX Commonwealth Games this October.
Penhale clocked in at 3 minutes, 56.63 seconds to take 18th-place in the 400-meter freestyle while he finished 14th in the 800 freestyle with a time of 8:08.46 on the final two days of the Pan Pacific championships at William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, California.
He opened competition with a 14th-place finish in the 1,500 freestyle. Penhale's time of 15:21.50 represented a personal best by nine seconds and the second-fastest performance by a Canadian athlete at the meet.
The Calgary, Alberta native is one of 27 swimmers nominated to represent Canada this fall at the event in Delhi, India.
