BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Former WKU swimmer Sean Penhale finished 14th in the 1,500-meter freestyle Wednesday at the 2010 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships at William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, California.
Penhale touched in at 15 minutes, 21.50 seconds, a personal best by nine seconds and the second-fastest performance by a Canadian athlete at the meet.
He will return to the pool Friday for the 400 freestyle and wrap up his competition with the 800 freestyle on Saturday. Preliminary heats start competition each morning followed by event finals in the evening.
The Calgary, Alberta native earned his place on the Canadian team with his performance at the Canadian Summer Nationals in early August.
The five-day event, which runs through Sunday, features teams from several nations including Australia, Canada, Japan and the United States.
