FORT MYERS, Fla. — The WKU Hilltopper golf team used a final round 302 to finish competition in the Renaissance Invitational in Fort Myers, Fla., in 11th place, the season's high finish for head coach Phillip Hatchett's squad.
Xavier shot an 857 over three rounds at the 7,063 yard Club at Renaissance golf course to win the 12-team invitational. Sebastian MacLean of Xavier shot a three-round total of 209 to finish as the low individual.
Andrew Heiser had the best three-round score for the Hilltoppers so far this season, with a pair of 75s and a 73 placing him in a tie for 29th. His 223 at the Renaissance Invitational betters Doug Kleeschulte's 231 at the Kansas Men's Invitational at the end of September for the best tournament score by a Hilltopper this season.
Bryan Alred followed a first-round 80 with a 77 and a 75 to finish tied for 53rd, and Will Beard finished in a tie for 59th.
Kleeschulte finished tied for 61st after shooting a three-round total of 235, and Dagan Abdon notched the best round of his career when he shot a 74 in the first round. Abdon finished with a 248 and was in 68th place.
The Hilltoppers return to action on Monday, October 11 with the start of play in the Cincinnati Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio.
