BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Western Kentucky University swimmer Nick Slattery has been recognized by the Sun Belt Conference as the SBC Swimmer of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Slattery had a big weekend for the Hilltoppers as WKU picked up wins against Georgia Tech and Florida Atlantic in Atlanta, Ga., on Saturday. The senior clocked in at 49.74 to place first in the 100 fly while finishing just three-hundredths of a second out of first place in the 200 fly with a time of 1:52.11.
His time in the 100 fly is the 23rd-fastest time in the nation thus far this season. Slattery leads the Hilltoppers in both butterfly events by almost a full second.
The Bowling Green native is the second WKU swimmer to earn the honor this season. Sophomore Billy Kunkel was recognized as the league swimmer of the week on Oct. 20.
The WKU swimming and diving team will return to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 6 in a dual meet against Xavier in Cincinnati, Ohio.
