BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Western Kentucky University swimmer Bill Kunkel has been recognized by the Sun Belt Conference as the SBC Swimmer of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
The defending Sun Belt Champion in the 100 free and runner-up in the 50 free, Kunkel was the highlight of last weekend's dual meet loss to South Carolina. The sophomore captured victories in the 50 free (21.10) and 100 free (45.87) along with a second-place finish in the 200 free (1:39.73) just behind South Carolina's Gerard Rodriguez.
Kunkel's time in the 200 free is the sixth-fastest time in the nation, along with his 100-free time ranking 26th and his 50-free time ranking 43rd.
The WKU swimming and diving team will return to the pool on Saturday in a tri-meet with Georgia Tech and Florida Atlantic at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga.
