Noting the Lady Toppers
The WKU softball team (18-11, 5-4 SBC) picked up their 18th win of the season last week against Tennessee Tech. The Lady Toppers defeated the Golden Eagles 3-0 in Cookeville, Tenn. Although the Lady Toppers only picked up two hits in the contest, Tennessee Tech committed three errors that helped lead WKU to victory. WKU’s game against Evansville that was scheduled for Thursday was cancelled in the top of the third inning due to severe weather in the Bowling Green area.
With only 21 games remaining in the regular season, the Lady Toppers are hitting .259 as a team. WKU has collected 119 runs on 206 hits and 97 RBIs.
The Lady Toppers are fifth in the Sun Belt in batting average with a .259 average. In pitching, WKU is currently third and has posted a combined ERA of 1.86. ULL leads the conference in both categories with a .320 batting average and a 0.95 ERA while Troy is second in both categories.
After the doubleheader with UAB and eight consecutive weekends on the road, the Lady Toppers will return home this weekend for their first home Sun Belt Conference series of the season. WKU will host ULM in a three-game series. After being swept by Troy in Troy, Ala. last weekend, WKU will look to regain strength in the conference.
