COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - The WKU softball team picked up its 18th win of the season on Wednesday night defeating Tennessee Tech 3-0 in seven innings. The Lady Toppers collected only two hits but were able to outlast the Golden Eagles in Cookeville to improve to 18-11 this season..
The Lady Toppers finally got on the board in the fourth inning scoring one run off two hits. Junior Lindsay Antone got things going for the Lady Toppers hitting a double to right center field to reach base. After a sacrifice bunt by senior Rebecca Horesky, Antone advanced to third and scored two plays later after a Sam Cronk single down the right field line.
With a 1-0 lead, the Lady Toppers added two insurance runs in the sixth inning. Junior Brooke Reed scored WKU's second run of the game after reaching base after a Tennessee Tech error. Then, Reed advanced to second after Antone was hit by a pitch and third following a Horesky walk. With Reed on third base and Antone on second base, the duo scored off another Tennessee Tech error that allowed Cronk to reach second base.
Senior pitcher Ryan Rogge claimed the victory for the Lady Toppers after pitching 6.2 innings and giving up zero runs and only four hits while striking out seven. With the victory, she improved her season record to 14-5 and picked up her eighth shutout of the season.
WKU will continue play on Thursday night when they host Evansville in a single game. The contest is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. CT. Live stats will be available at www.wkusports.com.
