BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The WKU swimming and diving team held their annual Red and White Meet on Saturday posting impressive times in preparation for the remainder of the 2009-10 season. Following a competitive meet, the white team squeaked out a win over the red team winning the meet with a score of 247.5-234.5. “I was extremely pleased on how well we raced during our intrasquad meet,” head coach Bruce Marchionda said. “We had a tough week this week in training and I was pleased to how they responded today. We had some very good performances today that were highlighted by Brittany Doss’ pool record in the 100 Breast. I am proud of our athletes for how competitive they were in this meet.” To kick things off in the 200 Free, Maggie Skiles posted a first place finish touching the wall 1:56.82. Also in the event for the red team, Alex Van Oost finished second with a time of 1:57.08. Van Oost was also victorious in the 200 Back, recording a time of 2:05.87 and in the 400 IM with a time of 4:36.64. The red team also picked up a win in the 100 Back behind the efforts of Hilary Mishler. Mishler won the event with a time of 57.14. The white team picked up their first win of the day in the women’s events in the 100 Breast behind Brittany Doss, who finished the race with a time of 1:04.29. Following the 100 Breast, Claire Donahue picked up the red team’s third win in the women’s events after winning the 100 Fly with a time of 52.93. Claire Alexandre gave the red team another victory in the 50 Free winning the event after posting a time of 22.54. Alexandre also posted a first place finish in the 200 IM posting a time of 2:07.30. In the 200 Breast, it was Stephanie Martin who took the win finishing with a time of 2:23.26 also for the red team. Kristiana Feeser gave the white team their second victory and final victory of the day in the 100 Free with a time of 52.70. In the men’s events, it was the white team who won the first two men’s events. In the 200 Free David Rayner posted a time of 1:40.91 to win the event before Cameron Watkins won the 100 Back with a time of 51.75. Luke Musser was also successful for the white team in the 100 and 200 Breast touching the wall in 57.11 and 2:04.69 seconds. He also picked up the win in the 400 IM with a time of 4:06.11. Then in the 100 Fly, Nick Slattery added another victory to the white team’s total with a time of 51.99. The white team also picked up the win in the men’s 50 Free as Zane Rowland finished the event with a time of 21.41. The red team picked up their first two wins in the men’s events in the 200 Back and 100 Free when David Menchinger won the 200 Back with a time of 1:53.34 and Billy Kunkel won the 100 Free with a time of 47.11. To wrap things up, Sean Penhale captured first place in the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.48 and Cameron Higdon won the 200 Fly with a time of 1:53.43. The WKU swimming and diving team will continue competition next weekend when they face Cumberland in Bowling Green.
