Bowling Green, Ky. — The Western Kentucky University soccer team opens preseason camp on Wednesday with high expectations after finishing 14-3-3 and claiming the Sun Belt Conference regular-season championship last year.
Head Coach Jason Neidell invites the public to catch a glimpse of this year’s team during preseason open workouts at Lover’s Lane Soccer Complex. Preparations for the upcoming season will begin Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Additional workouts open to the public will be conducted on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and continue on Thursday and Friday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Lady Toppers will also be training on Saturday, August 9 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. during opening day of the youth soccer season at Lover’s Lane, culminating with the traditional red-white scrimmage at 7:30 p.m. that same evening. The Lady Toppers return seven starters to this year’s squad, including conference player of the year Morgan Thomas and leading goal scorer Kristin Cocchiarella. Neidell also welcomes seven newcomers, highlighted by four Kentucky products. Two-time all-state selection Lindsay Williams (West Jessamine) and 2007 Kentucky High School scoring leader Lindsey Goad (Holy Cross) join 2007 NSCAA All-Region players Libby Stout (DuPont Manual) and Kaylyn Pratt (Model Lab). Fresh off her club team’s national championship run, Colorado native Hayley Marsh, Ohio standout Kelsey Meyer, and transfer Catie Chase round out the new additions to the 2008 Lady Topper lineup.
The 2008 season kicks off with an exhibition match against Memphis at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 14 at the WKU Soccer Complex on Creason Avenue.
